We are a Calgary based, multi album power trio of Mitchell Brady (Guitar / Vocals), Keone Friesen (Bass / Harmonica), and Isaiah Stonehouse (Drums / Background Vocals). We currently have out two full albums (Windsor Street (2014), Common Bliss (2017)) and an EP (At Odds (2015)), and are always working on new material. If we had to describe our music, it would be something along the lines of classic blues / rock n’ roll, with romps of alternative, indie and psychedelic rock. Drawing from our bank of original works, we carry the audience to the hay days of rock n' roll and the blues, while adding a new and unique modern twist to the mix. Some of our more notable achivements over the years include being National Semi-finalists of CBC's 2017 Searchlight Competition with our song Common Bliss (Top 25 out of thousands of entries), Winners of the 2016 YYC (Calgary) Music Awards for Rock Album of the Year (At Odds), Nominees for Group of the Year at the 2016 YYC Music Awards, named into Forksters 2014 Top 100 Bands of the Year with our album Windsor Street, and being three time finalists in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 International Songwriters Competition (out of more than 18,000 entries each year). We have played venues as far as the Whiskey a Go Go (Los Angeles) and The Roxy (Vancouver), to as close as Flames Central and MacEwan Hall right at home in Calgary. We have also had the priviledge to play tons of other venues and festivals across Alberta and BC, and speaking of festivals (which we absolutely love!), the Lilac Festival (Calgary), Beaumont Roots and Blues Festival (Edmonton), and the Steamboat Mountain Music Festival (BC) are some of our favourites we have played, to name a few. On top of all this, we have had the honour to share the stage with artists such as Trooper, Colin James, The Sheepdogs, The Odds, The Northern Pikes, Tim Williams, and more. To conclude, we're old souls with young minds, with a goal to share music to people around the world. We strive to be the best we can be, and want our audience and fans to know that too. If you consider yourself to be a live music enthusiast, an old rocker, young and hip, or just a lover of music, we'd love for you to check us out more. You've already read this far, so thank you (we really mean it!). We are The Static Shift, and long live music with heart.
Mitchell Brady - Guitar, Lead Vocals
Mitchell started his music career playing the piano, catching the desire to perform by playing for over 300 people at 8 years old. He moved on to playing his dads drum set, joining the school band as a drummer. He formed his first band at the age of 10, focusing on creating new music. Inspired early by Jimmy Page, Jack White and Brian May, he soon picked up the guitar and discovered this was what he was born to play. Not long after, he was playing multiple instruments in both senior and junior school bands. Not content, he passionately started writing music, and developing his unique vocal sound. Making connections through his passion for music resulted in Mitchell being the front man for The Static Shift.
Keone Friesen - Bass, Harmonica, Back-Up Vocals
At a young age, Keone was drawn towards music with a strong force. Being born from a musical family, he was able to learn and pick it up with a good support base from his parents. His first instrument was the drums, which he started playing at age 4. But at age 8, Keone picked up his first bass and knew it was the instrument he would choose to express himself with. When Keone is not playing in the band he can be found writing, reading, spending time with friends, drinking tea and playing in a string ensemble at Central Memorial High School.
Isaiah Stonehouse - Drums, Back-Up Vocals
With a dad who works in the studio for a living, Isaiah has always been surrounded by music. It was back in 2010 (grade 7) when he first started to play the drums, being inspired by bands such as Coldplay, Switchfoot, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and later on, indie bands such as Young the Giant and Foster the People. Since then he has been in multiple bands, many music projects, and is the drummer for The Static Shift. When he’s not drumming in the band, you can find him out with friends, longboarding, taking photos and filming videos, drinking lots of coffee, studying at the University of Calgary, and listening to vinyl records. With a strong love for music, meet Isaiah.
